Californication: Part 3

I am continually amazed by the sharp writing on Californication. I am so happy that it is on Showtime and not FOX, because otherwise I would get all excited and then it would fade away into the night.

Where do I start? Some of it seems to be that the writes have it spot on. Hank Moody is a man who is trying to drown his loneliness in sex. In the pilot he picks a girl up at what looks like a bookstore and then he finds out that she is underage and soon to become his daughter’s stepsister. (ouch) But though she throws herself at him constantly he is holding himself away from her, and at the same time stepping into a quasi-fatherly role with her that is endearing.

But beyond Hank and his interpersonal relationships, I am in love with the love triangle between Charlie, his wife, and his secretary. I don’t quite get how it is that the wife is still quite hot… but there you go. What I am currently grooving on, is that in the latest episode Charlie and his wife are kind of at odds with eachother sexually, but they are both trying to spice things up. Charlie has discovered his inner dom with his secretary (yeah yeah yeah… no secretary cracks, even if secretary is a pretty hot film). When he approaches his wife about the BDSM he is clumsy and kind of scares her a tad, but really, how do you open up to your spouse and say, “What would really turn me on is………..?”

Any suggestions?
